Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research

Overview

Developed by the European Commission, the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) tracks greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel and biogenic (i.e. natural) sources, by country and industry. The database includes carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and various fluorinated gases (F-gases).

Example topics covered:

  • Emissions by country
  • Emissions by industry using Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) industry groupings
  • Emissions by fossil fuel or biogenic sources

Notes

The Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research provides emission timeseries from 1970 for greenhouse gases across countries.

The EUROPEAN_COMMISSION_EDGAR_ATTRIBUTES table details each emissions variable tracked by greenhouse gas type and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) industry. The IPCC is the United Nations body focused on the science related to climate change.

The EUROPEAN_COMMISSION_EDGAR_TIMESERIES table provides historical values on a monthly or annual basis for each tracked variable.
